After surfing down in Cornwall and becoming good friends with our surfing instructor we got invited on his latest search of UK surf. This time it was to the Highlands of Scotland.
It’s a long drive North of the wall, but once you get there it’s worth the wait, the scenery is incredible!
The first night we camped on the dunes by the beach at a place called Strathy, West of of Thurso. It would have been the perfect camp spot with perfect views but that night we had strong wind all night which meant a flappy noisy tent and not much sleep.
After searching for surf we found another beach, away from the roads and any other people. It felt completely off the grid and was the perfect place to pitch up for the night. We managed to find a place high enough to escape the tide and settled down for the night. We even spotted some local wildlife.
After a couple of wet and rainy days with no surf we finally got some waves. Andy, our surf guide, instructor and friend showed us how it should be done.
On the way back home we stopped off in Aberdeen to visit some family. Luckily there was a pod of dolphins in the port
